This postdoctoral position focuses on Earth system modeling with a specific emphasis on land vegetation dynamics. The successful candidate will develop and conduct climate model simulations that enhance the integration of the Bern3D Earth System Model and the LPX-Bern Dynamic Global Vegetation Model. The research will contribute to understanding tipping points and feedback mechanisms in the climate system, and involves collaboration with global climate research networks. This role offers a dynamic research environment within the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • PhD in Climate Science, Earth Science, Physics, or a related field (or expected before the project starts)
    • Advanced programming skills in Python, Fortran, R, or Julia
    • Experience in climate modeling and data handling or strong interdisciplinary research skills
    • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with dynamic vegetation modeling

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct simulations of climate models
  • Enhance the integration of the Bern3D Earth System Model with the LPX-Bern Dynamic Global Vegetation Model
  • Quantify climate feedbacks and identify tipping points
  • Validate models with paleoclimate data and simulate future climate scenarios
  • Contribute to international collaborations such as TIPMIP
  • Publish research and present findings at international conferences
