About the Position
The Department of Evolutionary Anthropology at the University of Vienna is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to manage two European Research Council (ERC)-funded projects: DISPERSE and RIFT-to-RIM. The role involves conducting and coordinating fieldwork in prehistoric archaeology (Palaeolithic/Stone Age) and overseeing scientific analyses of archaeological materials such as radiocarbon dating, proteomics, and ancient DNA. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- PhD in Archaeology, Geoarchaeology, or Archaeological Science
- Experience in prehistoric archaeology (Palaeolithic/Stone Age)
- Experience in archaeological fieldwork or laboratory settings
- Strong communication skills and ability to contribute to publications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing and organizing archaeological excavation and fieldwork projects
- Proficiency in databases and IT systems for research management
- Ability to collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management: Manage and coordinate the DISPERSE and RIFT-to-RIM research projects
- Fieldwork Coordination: Oversee fieldwork and coordinate teams across multiple countries in Asia and Africa
- Sampling and Analysis: Supervise the sampling of archaeological materials for scientific analysis (radiocarbon, proteomics, ancient DNA)
- Team Leadership: Provide training and guidance to new team members and act as a resource for scientific protocols
- Publication and Reporting: Contribute to publications, scientific reports, and present findings at conferences
- Data Management: Maintain and manage project-specific databases and support research article development
