About the Position

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) invites applications for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position in the Archaeological Sciences Centre. This role is part of a project exploring human adaptation in the Great Rann of Kachchh (GRK) through short- and long-term climatic transitions. The work aligns with the department’s interdisciplinary vision of integrating archaeology with geological sciences to reconstruct human-environment interactions from prehistoric periods to the Harappan age. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • M.A./M.Sc. in Archaeology / Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology with minimum 60% from graduation onwards
  • Minimum 55% in Class 10 and 12
  • GATE/UGC-NET or equivalent national exam qualification
  • Proficiency in English communication and report writing
  • Basic skills in illustration and presentation software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fieldwork experience in archaeological research
  • Knowledge of Harappan archaeology and prehistoric settlements
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research environments

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze archaeological and settlement data
  • Assist in discovering and interpreting both reported and new archaeological sites
  • Collaborate with geologists to study human-climate relationships
  • Prepare scientific illustrations, reports, and publications
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary research team
  • Contribute to the project’s academic outputs and dissemination
