About Position/Job
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available at the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History (IAKH), University of Oslo, as part of the European Research Council-funded project POLYCHROME – The Survival of Damaged Medieval Polychromed Heritage in the Nordics (2024–2029). This interdisciplinary role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge heritage science, focusing on the preservation and study of medieval polychromed objects across Scandinavia. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic, multi-national research team and work in mobile lab settings across Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Materials Science, Heritage Science, or related discipline
- Experience in non-invasive imaging of heritage objects
- High IT literacy
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Doctoral dissertation defended by time of application
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in digital X-radiography, portable XRF, FTIR, 3D microscopy
- Practical experience in museums or heritage organizations
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Cross-disciplinary collaboration experience
- Public engagement and communication skills
- Driving license valid in Scandinavia (Class B)
- Competence in a Scandinavian language
Key Responsibilities
- Imaging and examination of medieval objects in Scandinavian museums and churches
- Fieldwork using a mobile laboratory setup
- Data processing, interpretation, and publication
- Contribution to teaching and administration (10%)
- Coordination within the POLYCHROME project timeline
