About the Program
The ERC-funded PECUNIA project at Sorbonne University offers a fully-funded doctoral/PhD position focusing on public wealth in the cities of Roman Asia Minor (27 BC – AD 235). This exciting PhD opportunity involves analysing epigraphic evidence to reassess the financial foundations of civic life in the Roman East. Required Degree/Diploma
Master’s degree or equivalent in Ancient History or Classics (to be completed before contract start)
Research Focus/Area
- Roman public administration and finances
- Greek and Latin epigraphy
- Public revenues in Roman Asia Minor
- Fiscal management and civic expenditure in antiquity
- Digital humanities tools for epigraphic data collection
Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Ancient History or Classics
- Proficiency in Latin and Ancient Greek
- Experience working with epigraphic sources
- Excellent written and spoken English and working knowledge of French (or vice versa)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research experience in Roman history or epigraphy
- Knowledge of additional modern languages
- Strong organisational and time management skills
