About Position/Job

The Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo (NVIC), affiliated with Leiden University, is hiring a University Lecturer (0.5 FTE) in Egyptology & Archaeology to join its international academic team. Based in Cairo, this role offers a unique opportunity to combine academic teaching, research, and international collaboration. You will coordinate MA-level teaching in Egyptology and archaeology, supervise student visits to museums and excavation sites, and contribute to public lectures and outreach. As Assistant Director, you will also support institutional leadership, contributing to cultural and academic activities across Egypt. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Egyptology, Archaeology, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated university-level teaching experience
  • Experience in archaeological fieldwork (preferably in Egypt)
  • Strong English proficiency (C1 level)
  • Organisational and intercultural communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Dutch, French, German, or Arabic
  • Familiarity with higher education systems in the Netherlands and Flanders
  • Ability to conduct field-based research
  • Experience coordinating academic and public-facing programmes

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and teach MA-level courses in Egyptology and archaeology
  • Supervise and mentor students during site visits across Egypt
  • Conduct your own research and support NVIC-affiliated projects
  • Assist in managing NVIC’s academic networks and events
  • Contribute to workshops, excursions, lectures, and community engagement
  • Support the Director as Assistant Director in administrative and strategic tasks
