About the Programme
The NTNU University Museum is offering two fully funded PhD positions in Natural and Cultural History, based in Trondheim, Norway. These interdisciplinary roles span research fields such as archaeology, natural history, systematics, ecology, and age determination, and contribute to sustainable development through science, education, and outreach. PhD candidates will join one of twelve research groups aligned with the museum’s focus areas and must submit a tailored project proposal. The positions offer access to world-class collections, laboratories, long-term data series, and research vessels. The PhDs are part of a dynamic and international academic community and will benefit from extensive institutional support, career development, and mentorship. The employment term is three years, with a possible extension to four years, including academic and outreach activities.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (120 ECTS at the master’s level)
- Strong academic performance (average grade of B or higher on NTNU’s scale)
- Project proposal aligned with one of the museum’s research groups
- Fluent oral and written English skills
- Must meet admission requirements to NTNU’s PhD programme in Biology or Historical and Cultural Studies

- Experience with peer-reviewed publications
- Relevant research or field/lab work
- Demonstrated independence and structured work habits
- Motivation, flexibility, and strong analytical thinking
