The Faculty of Archaeology at Leiden University is offering an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher (0.8 fte) to join the prestigious ERC-funded project Inequal Cyprus. This role focuses on uncovering food and feasting practices in late prehistoric Cyprus (4000–1700 BCE) to understand how these cultural elements shaped and reflected social inequalities. You will analyse archaeological contexts suggesting feasting events and conduct isotope analysis (Oxygen and Carbon) on human remains and control samples. Working closely with leading scholars and an international team, this position offers the chance to produce groundbreaking publications and datasets while contributing to a vital interdisciplinary research agenda. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Archaeology completed by the time of appointment
  • Strong interest and ability in interdisciplinary research
  • Availability for travel and fieldwork outside the Netherlands

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with prehistoric Cyprus, bio-archaeology, and isotope analysis
  • Demonstrated organisational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct innovative research on feasting and diet within the Inequal Cyprus project
  • Perform isotope analyses on archaeological and ecological samples
  • Participate in fieldwork and act as a project ambassador
  • Integrate diverse datasets, including archaeological, bio-archaeological, isotopic, and spatial data
  • Publish and present findings in high-impact journals and conferences
  • Engage actively with faculty-level discussions on research innovation
