About Position/Job
The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) invites applications for a full-time Researcher position in Medieval Epigraphy at the Centre d’Études Supérieures de Civilisation Médiévale (CESCM) in Poitiers, France. This temporary postdoctoral role is part of the prestigious European Research Council-funded GRAPH-EAST project, which focuses on inscriptions and graffiti from the Eastern Mediterranean between the 7th and 16th centuries. The selected candidate will study the medieval inscriptions of the Italian Maritime Republics and contribute to the understanding of cultural exchanges and graphic practices in this region. The role offers a unique opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary, international environment and to participate in creating a connected history of epigraphy using innovative digital tools.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in History or a closely related field
- Knowledge in medieval epigraphy, palaeography, and Mediterranean history
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in digital humanities
- Good command of English and Italian
- Basic knowledge of French
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work in a team
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and edit medieval inscriptions from the Eastern Mediterranean
- Contribute to the HEURIST and TITULUS databases
- Publish high-level scientific research
- Share results at workshops and international conferences
- Support project management, including event organisation and communication
- Co-direct the virtual exhibition alongside the principal investigator
