About the Program

The University of Bergen invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Digital Humanities and Narrative Research at the renowned Centre for Digital Narrative. Based within the Department of Linguistics, Literary and Aesthetic Studies, this three-year position begins on 1 November 2025. It will be supervised by Professor Nick Montfort and Professor Rafael Pérez y Pérez. The fellowship focuses on exploring narrative through computational and creative models, combining literary studies, digital culture, and storytelling technologies. The successful applicant will engage with an international research team, participate in workshops, symposia, and doctoral training programmes, and contribute to developing new and historical storytelling systems. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in digital culture, digital humanities, computational media, literary studies, media studies, creative writing, computer science, or related fields
  • Degree must be awarded by the application deadline
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in research on digital narratives
  • Knowledge of computational or storytelling systems
  • Academic publications or research dissemination
  • Programming skills for research purposes
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
