About the Program
The University of Bergen invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Literature and Generative AI, based at the internationally recognised Centre for Digital Narrative within the Department of Linguistic, Literary and Aesthetic Studies. Starting in November 2025, this four-year doctoral fellowship will be part of the ERC-funded project AI STORIES, led by Professor Jill Walker Rettberg. The project explores how generative AI models reproduce and exaggerate deep narrative structures found in training datasets, potentially introducing cultural narrative bias. The PhD candidate will pursue an independent project within this framework, leading to a doctorate in Digital Culture, Comparative Literature, or Nordic Literature. The role includes 2.5 years of research and 1 year of career-development duties such as teaching or dissemination. Based in Bergen, Norway, the Centre provides a vibrant research environment, extensive training, and strong international collaboration.
