About the Position
The Faculty of History at the University of Oxford is inviting applications for a four-year, fixed-term Departmental Lectureship in Global and Imperial History, beginning on 1 January 2026. This position is based at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, located in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Oxford. The role supports teaching during a temporary vacancy caused by a faculty member’s appointment to a leadership position and subsequent sabbatical. Under the guidance of Professor Faisal Devji, the lecturer will contribute significantly to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in global historical contexts, with a temporal focus between 1750 and 1930. Responsibilities include designing MSt modules, participating in DPhil seminars, and supervising student research. The role offers academic autonomy while enhancing Oxford’s globally recognised research and teaching strengths in imperial and transnational history.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctorate in a relevant historical field (or near completion)
- Demonstrated experience teaching Global and Imperial History
- Ability to supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Knowledge of current literature and research in the field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong publication record appropriate to career stage
- Experience developing course content and leading core modules
- Capacity for administrative and coordination duties
- Ability to design postgraduate modules in Global History
Key Responsibilities
- Teach the European and World History 11 paper (1750–1930)
- Deliver MSt in Global and Imperial History content
- Participate in DPhil training seminars
- Design and lead a specialised MSt option paper
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students
- Contribute to academic administration within the Faculty
