About Position/Job

The National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Medieval Philosophy to join the Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des Textes (IRHT) in Aubervilliers, France. This role is part of the prestigious Horizon 2020 RESTORY project (Recovering Past Stories for the Future: A Synergistic Approach to Textual and Oral Heritage of Small Communities), a large-scale international collaboration involving 22 partners across Europe. Supervised by Dr Monica Brînzei, the position will focus on medieval Latin manuscripts, codicology, palaeography, and textual criticism. The project aims to document and interpret the cultural heritage of small communities through case studies, annotated bibliographies, and scholarly workshops. With opportunities for interdisciplinary research, public outreach, and limited remote work, this is an exceptional opportunity to advance scholarly contributions in medieval textual heritage.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Medieval History, Medieval Philosophy, or related field
  • Expertise in Medieval Latin, codicology, palaeography, and textual criticism
  • Strong command of English and Romanian
  • Basic knowledge of French
  • 1–4 years of postdoctoral research experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in science communication or public engagement
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated initiative in developing original research questions

Key Responsibilities

  • Compile an updated list of known Latin manuscripts and annotated bibliographies
  • Define a manuscript corpus and develop case studies
  • Contribute to scholarly workshops within the RESTORY consortium
  • Participate in public outreach and dissemination activities
  • Collaborate with cultural stakeholders and contribute to museographic projects
  • Engage in occasional domestic or international research travel
