About Position/Job
The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) is inviting applications for a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in the Department of Centre for Ocean, River, Atmosphere and Land Sciences (CORAL). This fellowship supports the project titled “Multidimensional Assessment of Ecological Dynamics and Ecosystem Health of Selected High Altitude Wetlands of Indian Himalayan Region for Effective Conservation and Management Planning.” Under the guidance of Prof. Mukunda Dev Behera, the project focuses on integrating remote sensing, GIS, field data collection, and environmental data analytics to monitor and assess the ecological status of Himalayan wetlands. The 18-month position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary conservation research with significant regional impact, funded by the G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE), Sikkim. This role aligns with IIT Kharagpur’s commitment to environmental sustainability and scientific excellence.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree in Basic Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or Professional Course
- Selection through National Eligibility Tests such as CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, or other national level examinations by DST, DBT, DRDO, ICAR, ICMR, IITs, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Remote Sensing, GIS, Field Data Collection
- Skills in Climate Modelling and Environmental Data Analytics
Age Limit:
- Maximum 28 years (relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST/OBC/PH/Female candidates) as of the last date of application
Key Responsibilities
- Mapping and monitoring high altitude wetlands using integrated remote sensing and field-based spatiotemporal observations
- Assessing carbon dynamics and applying geostatistical methods
- Developing a GIS-based, web-enabled High Altitude Wetland (HAW) Management Information System and Spatial Decision Support System (DSS)
