About the Position
Durham University’s Department of Archaeology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Archaeology and Agent-Based Modelling. This fixed-term, full-time role focuses on developing computational models to investigate how past societies interacted with their environments, within the framework of the Science, Society and Archaeology initiative. Working under the supervision of leading academics in the department, the postholder will apply agent-based modelling techniques to archaeological data, shedding light on long-term human–environment dynamics across different temporal and geographical contexts. The position offers an exciting opportunity to advance interdisciplinary research that combines archaeology, social science, and computational methods, while also contributing to the department’s internationally recognised strengths in both field-based and theoretical archaeology. This role is ideal for a researcher eager to bridge innovative modelling approaches with archaeological enquiry in a collaborative and research-driven environment.
