Saarland University is offering a Research Associate position in Prehistoric Archaeology at the Institute of Pre- and Early History, starting 1 April 2026. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Prehistoric and Early Historic Archaeology (magna cum laude or equivalent).
  • Specialisation in Early Historic Archaeology or related fields.
  • German (C2) and English (C2) proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in digital archaeological methods.
  • Strong academic engagement with evidence of independent research.
  • Ability to teach and motivate students effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 4 SWS (teaching hours) in Prehistoric and Early Historic Archaeology.
  • Supervise and co-supervise BA/MA theses.
  • Contribute to examinations and student advising.
  • Participate in ongoing research projects of the Institute.
  • Support administrative duties and academic self-governance.
  • Develop an independent habilitation project.
