About the Position
The University of Tübingen is seeking a motivated Excavation Employee (m/f/d, E4 TV-L, 100%) to join the Department of Earth Sciences within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The position, limited until 31 December 2026, focuses on archaeological excavation and geological documentation at the renowned Schöningen opencast mine in Lower Saxony—a world-famous Palaeolithic site that has yielded significant discoveries about early human life. This role offers hands-on experience in field archaeology, working within an interdisciplinary research environment committed to advancing scientific understanding of early human activity and environmental history.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Physical ability to perform excavation work and lift heavy loads
- Teamworking skills and reliability in field conditions
- Experience in archaeological excavation or fieldwork
- Safe use of gardening and landscaping equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience at archaeological research sites
- Knowledge of excavation documentation techniques
- Familiarity with geological and sedimentary processes
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting systematic excavation of sediments and artefacts
- Documenting finds, geological profiles, and field data
- Assisting with site maintenance and organisation
- Collaborating with research staff and excavation supervisors
