The University of Tübingen invites applications for two fully funded PhD fellowships (m/f/d) in Paleolithic Archaeology within the Department of Early Prehistory and Quaternary Ecology, Faculty of Science. Supervised by Prof. Nicholas Conard, the fellowships offer an exceptional opportunity to explore the 300,000-year-old site complex of Schöningen. This research aims to advance understanding of early human behaviour, cultural modernity, and environmental adaptation through archaeological, ecological, and interdisciplinary approaches. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Paleolithic Archaeology or related disciplines such as Quaternary Ecology, Paleoethnology, Experimental Archaeology, Archaeo- and Paleogenetics, or Zooarchaeology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior research experience in prehistoric archaeology or field studies
  • Strong analytical and academic writing skills
  • Interest in interdisciplinary methods and cultural evolution research
