About the Program

ETH Zürich invites applications for a fully-funded PhD in Reflection Seismology for Carbon Capture and Sequestration at the Institute of Geophysics, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. This doctoral position focuses on high-resolution seismic imaging and monitoring of CO₂ injection, addressing the feasibility, safety, and migration of CO₂ in Switzerland’s subsurface. The project will be supervised by Dr. Cédric Schmelzbach, Dr. Dirk-Jan van Manen, and Prof. Johan Robertsson, and aligns with the research theme of the Mathematical Geophysics group, which specialises in processing, imaging, and inversion of geophysical data. The research duration is 4 years and is based in Zurich, Switzerland, with an expected start date in 2026. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English (German knowledge advantageous but not required)

Preferred Qualifications:
