About Position/Job

The University of Oslo is inviting applications for a permanent Associate Professor position in Nordic Archaeology, with a strong focus on the Viking Age. This role is affiliated with the Museum of the Viking Age (VTM) and is an integral part of the museum’s research initiatives in Nordic antiquities. The position offers a unique balance of responsibilities: 45% research, 45% museum work, and 10% administrative tasks. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across the Archaeological Collections, Cultural Heritage Management, and Rescue Archaeology units, contributing to both the curation of Nordic collections and the development of public heritage projects. The role provides opportunities for interdisciplinary research, fieldwork, and collaboration with national and international institutions, emphasising the academic significance of Viking Age studies within Norway’s cultural and historical landscape.
