Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna invites applications for a researcher position within the ERC FIRSTSTEPS project, focusing on the Palaeoanthropological Study of Human Remains from Middle and Upper Palaeolithic Archaeological Contexts. This project investigates the earliest dispersals of Homo sapiens into southeastern Europe through a highly interdisciplinary approach combining archaeology, palaeoanthropology, zooarchaeology, isotopic analyses, and biomolecular studies.
The successful candidate will contribute to examining human fossil remains, identifying adaptive differences with Neanderthals, and understanding the biological and cultural factors that supported human expansion. The role involves morphometric and functional analyses using traditional and digital techniques, 3D modelling, geometric morphometrics, and virtual biomechanics, with opportunities to incorporate isotopic and biomolecular investigations. Eligibility & Qualifications
