About Position/Job
The University of Oxford invites applications for the Senior Research Fellow and Departmental Lecturer in Medieval and Scholastic Theology, a prestigious five-year fixed-term academic post based in the Faculty of Theology and Religion and Blackfriars Hall. This role focuses on Medieval and Scholastic Theology (c. 800–1400), with particular strength in Thomistic and Aquinas studies, and supports teaching, advanced research, and academic leadership. The postholder will serve as Director of the Aquinas Institute at Blackfriars Hall while contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the Faculty. The position is generously supported by the McDonald Agape Foundation, including an additional annual grant for Aquinas Institute events. This appointment strengthens Oxford’s global leadership in medieval theological traditions, interdisciplinary theological scholarship, and the historical study of Christian thought in dialogue with philosophy and ecclesiastical history.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in Theology or a closely related field
- Expertise in Medieval and Scholastic Theology (c. 800–1400)
- Proven record of high-quality research and publications
- Experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research students
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialisation in Thomas Aquinas andthe Thomistic tradition
- Experience in academic leadership or programme development
- Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration
- Engagement with public or ecclesial theological scholarship
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Medieval and Scholastic Theology
- Supervise graduate research students
- Conduct and publish original scholarly research
- Provide academic leadership within both institutions
- Serve as Director of the Aquinas Institute
- Organise scholarly events supported by the annual £10,000 Aquinas Institute grant
- Promote international research collaboration in medieval theological studies
