About the Position

The University of Augsburg, Germany, is offering a Research Assistant position within the Faculty of Philology and History, based at the Chair of Image Processing and Visualisation in the Digital Humanities. This 65% part-time role is funded for two years and is designed to support the development of a doctoral research project in digital imaging and cultural heritage studies. The chair focuses on image-based documentation, visualisation, and computational analysis of cultural heritage, combining expertise from art history, cultural studies, and computer science. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Digital Humanities, Archaeology, Art History, History, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • Interest in image-based cultural heritage research
  • Methodological knowledge in at least one of: Image Processing, Remote Sensing, or GIS
  • Strong communication skills in English and German (or willingness to reach B2 level in German)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Python programming
  • Initial research experience in digital heritage technologies
  • Interest in university teaching

  • Developing a doctoral research proposal and contributing to funding applications
  • Participating in course planning and examinations in Art and Cultural History and Digital Humanities
  • Teaching duties of 3 SWS
