About the Program
The University of Augsburg invites applications for a fully-funded PhD Student (m/f/d) in Digital Humanities and Image-Based Cultural Landscape Research at the Faculty of Philology and History. The doctoral project focuses on image-based cataloguing, visualisation, and analysis of cultural landscapes, integrating digital imaging, remote sensing, GIS, and landscape history. The position is supervised by the Chair of Image Processing and Visualisation, funded by the High-Tech Agenda Bavaria, and provides a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and internationally connected environment. The 50% position allows for the completion of a doctoral project over six years, with opportunities to publish, teach, and collaborate across art history, environmental sciences, archaeology, computer science, and digital humanities. The post combines research, teaching, and academic administration, promoting career development in digital imaging and cultural heritage studies.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in relevant fields
- Proven interest in image-based cultural landscape research
- Knowledge of GIS, remote sensing, or landscape history
- Academic writing and communication skills in English and German
- Willingness to reach German B2 if required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fieldwork or research experience in digital humanities
- Programming skills in Python
- Interest in university teaching and student advising
- Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams
