About the Position
The Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge, is seeking an Archive Assistant to join its dedicated team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for those interested in archives management and heritage careers. Working alongside the Museum Archivist, the post-holder will help document, preserve, and promote a unique archive collection spanning over 300 years. The archive includes field notebooks of Adam Sedgwick, rare 17th-century fossil drawings, geological maps, photographs, and the Sedgwick Club Archive. With more than 90,000 annual visitors and internationally recognised collections, this role contributes directly to supporting research, enriching student learning, and engaging diverse communities. The post is funded until 30 September 2029 in the first instance.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Knowledge of archives role and activities
- Commitment to a career in archives management
- Understanding of archive care and handling standards
- Excellent IT and database skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Good planning and organisational abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge or interest in geology, geography, fieldwork, or history of science
- Experience in archives, museums, or heritage institutions
Key Responsibilities
- Support the documentation, care, and handling of archival materials
- Assist researchers and visitors in accessing archives
- Respond to collections-related enquiries
- Promote the archive to wider audiences
- Contribute to the Museum’s teaching, research, and outreach mission
