About Position/Job
The American University of Paris (AUP) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology within the Department of Communication, Media, and Culture, starting 1 August 2026. This position offers the unique opportunity to shape the department’s curriculum, contribute to the redesign of the sociocultural anthropology minor, and build interdisciplinary connections with programs in communication, film, fashion, food studies, journalism, and global communications. The ideal candidate will combine innovative ethnographic research, sustained fieldwork, and additional methodological expertise (visual, film, digital, multimodal) to engage pressing contemporary issues such as environmental sustainability, social justice, globalization, migration, power, and embodiment. The role includes teaching six courses annually, mentoring students, contributing to curriculum innovation, and participating in faculty governance within a vibrant, international liberal arts environment in Paris.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Anthropology or closely related discipline by appointment (1 Aug 2026)
- Sustained ethnographic research experience with international reach
- Evidence of teaching excellence and/or mentorship
- Commitment to liberal arts education in an international setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to speak French (recommended but not required)
- Experience in interdisciplinary curriculum development
- Engagement in international research collaborations
Key Responsibilities
- Teach six courses per academic year, from introductory to advanced levels
- Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students
- Conduct sustained research with international impact
