About the Position
The American University of Rome (AUR) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Archaeology, beginning August 2026. Based in Rome’s Department of Cultural Heritage, the successful candidate will also serve as Program Director for the MA in Cultural Heritage: Sustainability and Community, while teaching across AUR’s graduate and undergraduate programmes in Archaeology & Classics. This position combines teaching, administration, and research, offering opportunities to update curricula, guide student theses, and expand the programme’s academic reputation internationally. Specialisation in areas such as forensic geo-archaeology, heritage crime, or advanced digital technologies (remote sensing, GIS, AI) for heritage conservation is especially welcome. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an internationally recognised liberal arts university located in the heart of Rome.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Archaeology or related discipline
- University teaching experience, preferably in an American context
- Administrative experience in higher education
- Proven research record and publications
- Strong English communication skills
- Experience supervising student theses
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a liberal arts academic environment
- International research or teaching background
- Expertise in advanced heritage technologies
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the MA in Cultural Heritage: Sustainability and Community
- Teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels
- Mentor students and supervise theses
- Develop curricula and contribute to academic innovation
- Conduct active research and publish scholarly work
