About the Position
The University of Utah invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) position in Archaeology at the Department of Anthropology in Salt Lake City, USA. This Faculty position is a full-time, career-line, non-tenure track role starting on 1 July 2026. The successful candidate will also work as Director of the University of Utah Archaeological Center (UUAC). This permanent academic job focuses on archaeology teaching, field research, and student mentoring while contributing to international research in anthropology and archaeology.
The selected candidate will teach introductory archaeology and advanced regional or topical courses. Because the role includes leadership duties, the teaching load is reduced to four courses per academic year. In addition, the candidate will mentor undergraduate and graduate students and take part in faculty meetings and department activities. Applicants with archaeological fieldwork experience in western North America and experience with Cultural Resource Management organisations or government agencies are strongly encouraged to apply.
As Director of UUAC, the candidate will supervise students, lead weekly centre meetings, manage research facilities, and oversee about $20,000 in annual research funding for student jobs and research projects. This role offers a fully funded salaried faculty position with university benefits, including retirement and health insurance. Applicants must hold a PhD in Archaeology or Anthropology by the start date. The application deadline is 30 March 2026.
