About the Position
The Faculty of Archaeology at Leiden University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor (UD2) position in Computational Archaeology. Housed within the Department of Archaeological Sciences, this permanent role seeks an innovative scholar whose research complements the Faculty’s interdisciplinary strengths and aligns with broader university initiatives such as SAILS. The successful candidate will contribute to Leiden’s world-leading research and teaching environment by developing their own research programme, teaching at undergraduate and master’s levels, supervising student projects, and engaging in academic service. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Archaeology or Computer/Data Science with archaeological focus
- At least two years of postdoctoral research experience
- Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the listed computational areas
- Initial experience in grant acquisition and academic publishing
- Teaching experience in higher education (or willingness to qualify)
- Proficiency in English and Dutch (or willingness to acquire Dutch)
- Strong ethical, inclusive, and team-oriented approach
Preferred Qualifications:
- UTQ/BKO or equivalent teaching accreditation
- Interdepartmental collaboration and open science engagement
- Broad supervision capacity across student research topics
Key Responsibilities
