About Position/Job
The Department of Geography at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Global Black Geographies, starting July 1, 2026. This role explores the spatial dimensions of African and Black diasporic life, particularly in the Global South, within contexts of political, social, and environmental change. Areas of focus may include Black studies, racial capitalism, political ecology, urban and agrarian studies, and diaspora geographies. The position strengthens UC Berkeley’s long-standing commitment to African and diasporic studies, political economy, and postcolonial geographies. The department encourages applicants with innovative methodologies and inclusive research practices. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD, JD, MD, or equivalent international degree (or enrolment in such programme at time of application).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated methodological innovation and theoretical rigour.
- Research on urbanisation, displacement, land transformation, and social/environmental change.
- Strong teaching and mentoring commitment in inclusive academic settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and advance research in Global Black Geographies.
- Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
