About Position/Job

The Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College (City University of New York) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the History of South Asia, starting in Fall 2026. Situated in Manhattan’s historic Gramercy Park/Flatiron district, Baruch College is home to a diverse and vibrant student community, many of whom are first-generation college students. The successful candidate will join a dynamic History Department committed to expanding global perspectives beyond the United States and Europe. The role offers an opportunity to pursue active research, shape new courses in South Asian history, and contribute to the department’s interdisciplinary teaching. Priority will be given to scholars specialising in the premodern to early modern periods of South Asia, with a strong research and teaching portfolio.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in History or a closely related field (by August 2026)
  • Working knowledge of at least one South Asian language besides English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of an active research agenda
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in diverse classroom settings

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active research profile with growing recognition in the field
  • Teach undergraduate courses (3 per semester) including surveys and specialised courses in South Asian history
  • Develop new courses aligned with research expertise
  • Engage in service to the Department, School, College, University, and the broader academic community
