About the Job

Arkansas Tech University (ATU) is seeking an Assistant Professor of Anthropology for a tenure-track position starting in August 2025. This role is ideal for a scholar with expertise in archaeology, particularly in the southeastern United States, with a focus on pre-colonial and Early American archaeology. The successful candidate will contribute to managing the newly established Center for Heritage and Culture collections, teach a variety of undergraduate courses, and oversee the Archaeology Field School. This position provides an exciting opportunity to shape the future of the Anthropology & Geography degree program and actively engage with students and the community through archaeological events.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Anthropology or ABD with expected completion by December 2025
College teaching experience

Expertise in archaeology focusing on the southeastern US
Experience in developing field schools or internships
Evidence of peer-reviewed, original scholarship

Key Responsibilities

Teach courses including Introduction to Anthropology, Southeastern Archaeology, and upper-division courses
Develop additional courses aligned with your expertise
Advise and mentor students
Manage the Center for Heritage and Culture collections
Oversee the Archaeology Field School
Participate in state and local archaeology events
Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession
