The Networked Center for Research in Anthropology (CRIA) in Lisbon is inviting applications for a permanent, full-time Assistant Researcher position in Public Anthropology. This opportunity is part of the FCT-Tenure Program, designed to strengthen CRIA’s strategic line in Public Anthropology while encouraging collaboration across its university hubs and with IN2PAST. The selected researcher will engage in high-impact, interdisciplinary research addressing urgent social challenges such as migration, climate change, heritage, and human rights. With a strong focus on community engagement, this role offers the chance to lead innovative projects that connect academic research with real-world issues. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

PhD in Anthropology or a closely related field with relevant expertise
At least five publications in the last five years in indexed journals, books, or chapters
Participation in at least two funded R&D projects
A three-year scientific project aligned with CRIA’s strategic mission

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in public engagement and science communication
Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
Supervision and teaching experience at postgraduate level

Key Responsibilities

Design and conduct research projects in Public Anthropology
Apply for competitive funding and manage project budgets
Build and maintain strong relationships with communities and stakeholders
Collaborate with CRIA’s university hubs and the IN2PAST laboratory
Publish research in high-impact journals and present at conferences
Supervise and mentor postgraduate students
Develop new courses and contribute to CRIA’s training programmes
Actively engage in science communication and public outreach initiatives
