About Position/Job

The Networked Center for Research in Anthropology (CRIA) in Lisbon is inviting applications for a permanent, full-time Assistant Researcher position in Public Anthropology. This opportunity is part of the FCT-Tenure Program, designed to strengthen CRIA’s strategic line in Public Anthropology while encouraging collaboration across its university hubs and with IN2PAST. The selected researcher will engage in high-impact, interdisciplinary research addressing urgent social challenges such as migration, climate change, heritage, and human rights. With a strong focus on community engagement, this role offers the chance to lead innovative projects that connect academic research with real-world issues. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Anthropology or a closely related field with relevant expertise
  • At least five publications in the last five years in indexed journals, books, or chapters
  • Participation in at least two funded R&D projects
  • A three-year scientific project aligned with CRIA’s strategic mission

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in public engagement and science communication
  • Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Supervision and teaching experience at postgraduate level

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct research projects in Public Anthropology
  • Apply for competitive funding and manage project budgets
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with communities and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with CRIA’s university hubs and the IN2PAST laboratory
  • Publish research in high-impact journals and present at conferences
  • Supervise and mentor postgraduate students
  • Develop new courses and contribute to CRIA’s training programmes
  • Actively engage in science communication and public outreach initiatives
