About the Position

University College London (UCL) Institute of Archaeology, one of the world’s leading centres for archaeological and heritage research, invites applications for a full-time Associate Lecturer (Teaching) in Archaeology. This fixed-term role runs from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028, covering for Professor Corisande Fenwick during her research leave. The position focuses on undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, academic mentorship, and curriculum development, with opportunities to contribute to specialist and core archaeology modules. UCL’s Institute of Archaeology provides a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment with more than 60 academic staff and research projects spanning five continents, offering an unparalleled platform for innovative teaching and field-based learning.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Archaeology, Art History, or a related discipline (focus before AD 1800 preferred)
  • Proven experience teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Ability to deliver core and specialist modules in archaeology and heritage
  • Strong mentoring and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising students and contributing to field-based training
  • Competence in GIS, data analysis, or museum/collection management
  • Capacity to deliver cross-disciplinary skills modules

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and Master’s modules in archaeology and heritage
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate students as a personal tutor
  • Contribute to core skills training and field courses
  • Participate in departmental teaching, research activities, and administration
  • Support the Institute’s strategic goals in advancing archaeological education
