About Position/Job
The University of Bergen is recruiting an Associate Professor in Quaternary Geology and Palaeoclimatology within the Department of Earth Science. This permanent, full-time faculty position focuses on understanding the Earth’s past climate system through terrestrial archives and multidisciplinary geoscience methods. The successful candidate will develop externally funded research, contribute to teaching and supervision, and collaborate internationally in areas such as paleoclimate reconstruction, paleoceanography, glaciology, and Earth system science. The role integrates fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and numerical modelling, aligning with the department’s strengths in climate research, environmental change, and geohazards. As part of a leading centre,s including the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, the position offers strong infrastructure, research collaboration, and opportunities to shape future climate science education and outreach in Norway and beyond.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Quaternary paleoclimate, Earth system science, or related geoscience field
- Expertise in advanced analytical approaches and laboratory infrastructure
- Experience in terrestrial paleoclimate research using field and lab methods
- Strong peer-reviewed publication record
- Experience in teaching and student supervision at the university level
- Ability to obtain external research funding
- Excellent oral and written English
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate in a Scandinavian language
- Experience in multidisciplinary climate research collaboration
- Demonstrated science communication and public engagement
- Leadership experience in research teams
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and lead high-quality research in Quaternary geology and palaeoclimatology.
- Secure and manage externally funded research projects
