About Position/Job
The Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Duke University is inviting applications for a postdoctoral fellow specialising in Black feminist studies. This interdisciplinary position welcomes candidates with expertise in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies, Black Studies, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or related fields. The fellow will devote half of their time to conceptualising, planning, and organising the annual Black Feminist Theory Summer Institute (BFTSI) at Duke, including coordinating programming, events, and scholarly networks. The remaining half of the role allows for independent research and writing, with mentorship from GSF faculty and full integration into the university’s intellectual life. This position provides a unique opportunity to shape a developing summer programme while contributing to Duke’s ongoing commitment to interdisciplinary research and Black feminist scholarship. Applicants should have a PhD in hand by 1 July 2026.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: PhD in hand by 1 July 2026, strong background in Black feminist studies, experience in event planning, coordination, and communication.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to contribute to program growth, implement scholarly networks, engage cohorts, strong organisational and time management skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, and execute the Black Feminist Theory Summer Institute (BFTSI)
- Develop programme content, newsletters, and scholarly publications
- Coordinate conference roundtables and panels
- Build and maintain scholarly networks among BFTSI cohorts
- Conduct independent research and writing
