About Position/Job
The Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) & Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) Fellowship at Durham University offers a unique opportunity for early- to mid-career Indian scholars to join the Major Project “Confronting Climate Apartheid: law, economy, culture” during Epiphany Term 2026 (12 January – 20 March 2026). The Fellowship enables Fellows to engage in ground-breaking interdisciplinary research while collaborating with Durham University’s research team, visiting Fellows, and College communities. Selected candidates will benefit from office space at University College (Durham Castle), accommodation at Stephenson College, and a supportive research environment. The project explores critical questions around climate justice, environmental politics, and social inequality, providing an internationally visible platform for scholars to advance their work, deliver a public lecture, and engage in research that bridges law, economy, culture, and climate studies.

Research Area

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Indian citizen, domiciled and resident in India
- Early- to mid-career researcher (ECR)
- PhD in a relevant discipline or proven research track record
- Proficiency in English for seminars and public lectures
- Willingness to collaborate in the IAS Major Project
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous interdisciplinary research experience
- Experience in international collaboration
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to academic communities and public scholarship
Key Responsibilities
- Reside in Durham for the full 10-week term
- Participate in Confronting Climate Apartheid project activities and IAS events
- Deliver a public lecture and an IAS seminar paper
- Engage with Durham University staff, students, and Fellows
- Produce a 1,000-word end-of-Fellowship report
- Acknowledge CWIT and IAS support in all publications resulting from the Fellowship
