Archives Officer Position in Ethnology & Archival Science – LESC CNRS Nanterre, France | Apply by 29 April 2026

About the Position

The Laboratory of Ethnology and Comparative Sociology (LESC), CNRS, invites applications for a funded M/F in Charge of Ethnologists’ Archives Section position in Archival Science and Ethnology at the Éric-de-Dampierre Resource Centre, located in Nanterre, France. This professional opportunity focuses on archival management, ethnological documentation, and scientific heritage preservation within anthropology, sociology, and comparative ethnology research domains.

The successful candidate will actively develop archival policies for the collection, classification, conservation, and dissemination of scientific archives. Moreover, they will integrate physical and digital archival systems, ensuring compliance with ISAD(G) and EAD standards while supporting documentation workflows and ethical data access practices. Strong coordination with researchers, documentation teams, and external partners will ensure smooth archival operations.

Applicants must hold a BAC+3/4 qualification in archival science, documentation, or related humanities fields. In addition, candidates should demonstrate expertise in archival processing techniques, documentary systems, and project management methodologies. Familiarity with anthropology or ethnology is highly appreciated, along with strong communication skills, teamwork abilities, and English proficiency (B1–B2 level).

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term IT contract position starting June 2026, offering a competitive salary between €2,571 and €3,817 gross monthly depending on experience. Furthermore, the role includes public engagement responsibilities (15%), archive promotion activities, and collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams in a dynamic academic environment.
