Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Paleoclimate Modelling – CNRS, France | Apply by 20 April 2026

About the Position

CNRS invites applications for a funded Postdoctoral Researcher position in Paleoclimate Modelling at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement, located in St Aubin, France. This exciting academic opportunity focuses on ocean–atmosphere interactions, carbon cycle dynamics, and the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, contributing to global change and Earth system science research.

The main objective of this postdoctoral research is to use the IPSL-CM5A2 Earth System Model to simulate the evolution of global ocean circulation during the PETM over several thousand years. Moreover, the study explores different carbon input scenarios while considering or excluding Earth’s orbital variations.

An important aspect is to characterise transient climate dynamics, particularly deep ocean ventilation processes. Additionally, the research compares simulation outputs with marine sedimentary archive data to identify the most plausible scenarios and constrain the timing of carbon injection into the Earth system.

The selected candidate will join the Climate Modelling team at LSCE, where researchers investigate Earth’s climate across multiple timescales using advanced numerical modelling techniques. This collaborative environment supports innovative research and scientific excellence.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Earth System Science or climate modelling and demonstrate strong experience in numerical modelling approaches. Furthermore, preferred skills include programming, data analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration, along with excellent English communication skills and the ability to work independently.

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track Postdoctoral position starting in June 2026, offering competitive funded research support. Therefore, the role provides excellent opportunities for international collaboration, conference participation, and long-term academic career development.
