About the PhD Position
CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) invites applications for a fully funded PhD Researcher position in Environmental Modelling at the Institut Denis Poisson, Université d’Orléans, located in Orléans, France. This doctoral opportunity focuses on sediment transport in peri-urban catchments and supports advanced interdisciplinary research in applied mathematics, geosciences, and environmental hydrology. Importantly, the project addresses soil erosion, runoff dynamics, and contaminant transport under climate and land-use change conditions.
The selected PhD candidate will join a strong interdisciplinary team combining applied mathematics and earth sciences expertise. Furthermore, the research integrates numerical modelling, partial differential equations, hydraulics, and environmental metrology using the FullSWOF simulation software. In addition, field measurements, geochemical data, and inverse problem techniques will be used to trace contamination sources and understand sediment pathways at catchment scale.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics with a strong interest in geosciences. Ideally, candidates should have experience in PDEs, numerical methods, and scientific programming. Moreover, strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and teamwork skills are highly valued. This is a full-time, fully funded PhD position for three years starting October 2026, offering structured research training, international collaboration, and access to advanced modelling tools and field datasets.
