It also examines gold and silver circulation across the Islamic West. Importantly, it contributes to the international ANR ALMACIR research programme in archaeometry and medieval economic systems.
The successful candidate will join a highly specialised research environment using LA-ICP-MS (laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry), numismatic cataloguing, and archaeometric analysis. Furthermore, the role involves working with museum collections, including the Bibliothèque nationale de France, and participating in international scientific events. As a result, this PhD ensures strong interdisciplinary exposure across history, archaeology, and materials science.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Medieval Studies, History, Archaeology, or equivalent. Additionally, a strong knowledge of the medieval Islamic West and coinage systems is required.
