About Position/Job

The Dresden State Art Collections (Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden – SKD) invites applications for the position of Conservator (Research Associate) (m/f/d) in the Coin Cabinet, housed in the Dresden Residential Palace. This permanent, full-time position plays a key role in the stewardship and scientific advancement of one of the world’s leading numismatic collections. The successful candidate will contribute to exhibitions, digitisation, research, and outreach, while helping shape the cabinet’s future in a digitally connected museum landscape.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed academic university degree (MA/Master’s or equivalent) in history, archaeology, numismatics, or related field
  • Proven expertise in numismatics and museum-related experience
  • Good knowledge of German and English (spoken and written)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in numismatics or an interdisciplinary field
  • Experience in curating exhibitions and digitization projects
  • Familiarity with museum databases and digital workflows
  • Publications and teaching experience
  • Additional language skills (Latin/Greek desirable)
  • Social, communication, and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Scientific oversight and maintenance of the Coin Cabinet’s Universal Collection and permanent exhibition
  • Development and realization of exhibitions, interventions, and digital initiatives
  • Collaboration with SKD scholars and close coordination with the Directorate
  • Acquisition of third-party funding and sponsorship
  • Archival work on the Coin Fund Archive of the Free State of Saxony
  • National and international scholarly networking
  • Authoring publications, delivering lectures, and leading tours
