The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, is inviting applications for the prestigious Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship (RRF) 2024-25. This initiative aims to attract highly skilled Indian researchers working abroad to contribute to scientific research and innovation in India.
About the Fellowship
The Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship (DBT-RRF) was launched in 2006-07 to encourage Indian scientists abroad to return and establish research careers in Indian universities, national institutions, and laboratories.
Eligibility Criteria
✅ Nationality: Indian citizens only
✅ Age Limit: Maximum 45 years (as of the closing date)
✅ Research Areas: Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bio-engineering, Healthcare (human & animal), Agriculture, Veterinary Biotechnology, Bio-energy, and allied fields
✅ Qualification: Ph.D./M.D. in Life Sciences, Agriculture, Bioinformatics, or allied areas
M.Tech. in Biotechnology or allied fields with at least 3 years of post-doctoral research experience in overseas institutions
✅ Returnees: Candidates who have returned to India within one year (or two years for women) of the closing date can apply if they have not secured a permanent position.
Fellowship Benefits
💰 Fellowship Grant: ₹1,35,000 per month (consolidated)
🔬 Research Support: ₹13,00,000 per year for consumables, minor equipment, travel, project staff, and contingencies
🏢 Institutional Overhead: ₹50,000 per year to the host institution
📑 Additional Research Funding: Fellows can apply for research grants from other Indian government agencies
Duration
📆 The fellowship is for three years, with a possible extension for two more years based on performance evaluation.
