About the Program
ETH Zürich invites applications for a fully funded PhD in isotope geochemistry titled “Doctoral position in isotope geochemistry for marine authigenic clay formation and the silicon cycle” at the Earth Surface Geochemistry Group, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. This doctoral position focuses on understanding the formation of marine authigenic clay (reverse weathering) and its impact on the global silicon cycle and silicon isotopes, addressing key processes in early diagenesis and ocean chemistry.
Dr Gregory de Souza will supervise the project and aligns with the research theme of Earth surface processes and biogeochemical cycling. The research duration is 4 years and is based in Zurich, Switzerland, with an expected start date in 2026. The project offers advanced laboratory training in isotope geochemistry, electron microscopy, and mass spectrometry, alongside opportunities for international collaboration, conference participation, and possible oceanographic field campaigns.
