About Position/Job
The Pitt Rivers Museum, part of the University of Oxford’s Gardens, Libraries and Museums (GLAM) division, is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Event Assistant to support the delivery of a diverse programme of public, private, and commercial events. Based in Oxford, United Kingdom, this full-time role (36.5 hours per week) involves supporting events such as conferences, weddings, ceremonies, venue hires, and public engagement activities within one of the world’s leading museums of anthropology and archaeology. Working closely with the Events Manager and colleagues across the Museum and University, the postholder will contribute to high-quality event delivery while ensuring the safety of visitors, staff, and the Museum’s collections. The role is primarily on-site and requires flexibility, including evening and occasional weekend work, offering valuable experience in a world-class cultural institution.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience supporting or delivering events in a customer-facing or client-focused environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work calmly and professionally in a fast-paced operational setting
- Good IT and administrative skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in museums, heritage, or cultural venues
- Confidence undertaking practical event set-up tasks, including moving equipment
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of daytime and evening events
- Act as a first point of contact for event enquiries
- Assist with client visits, event documentation, and administration
- Provide on-site operational support during events
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure events are delivered safely and professionally
- Help protect the Museum’s collections and historic spaces during events
