About the Position
Archaeology South-East, part of the UCL Institute of Archaeology, is currently hiring Field Archaeologist to join exciting new development-led projects based out of its Portslade, Brighton office. This full-time, fixed-term role offers an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile excavations, including the long-running investigation of a significant Roman settlement site in West Sussex. The post is ideal for early-career archaeologists looking to deepen their field experience in a supportive and research-driven environment.
The position runs for a minimum of 12 months, with strong potential for contract extension. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- A degree in archaeology or a closely related field
- Some fieldwork experience (including voluntary or student digs)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in commercial archaeology
- Located on the West Sussex coast (local applicants preferred)
- Valid UK driving licence and willingness to drive for work
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in archaeological excavations and site recording
- Collect artefacts and environmental samples
- Maintain accurate documentation of archaeological features and contexts
- Follow H&S regulations and site protocols
- Work collaboratively with a large professional team
- Travel for stay-away work as required
