About the Position

The Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies at Aarhus University, under the School of Culture and Society, Faculty of Arts, invites applications for one or more Full Professorships in Archaeology. These permanent positions, available from 1 September 2026, offer an exceptional opportunity to lead innovative research and teaching within a dynamic and internationally renowned academic environment. The role focuses on advancing archaeological research, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration across Southern Scandinavia and beyond. Successful applicants will play a key part in shaping the department’s strategic direction, mentoring early-career scholars, and strengthening public engagement and external research funding.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent academic qualifications in Archaeology or related field
  • Strong publication record demonstrating excellence in research
  • Proven experience in international collaboration and leadership
  • Evidence of teaching and supervision at BA, MA, and PhD levels

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing research projects and securing external funding
  • Teaching or research experience in the archaeology of Southern Scandinavia
  • Proficiency in English; willingness to learn Danish within two years
  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring, diversity, and academic innovation

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and expand research within the Department and Faculty
  • Supervise and mentor PhD and postdoctoral researchers
  • Teach and develop curriculum at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Secure external research funding and manage collaborative projects
  • Engage in public archaeology and knowledge dissemination
  • Contribute to the Department’s strategic development and community partnerships
