About the Program
Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL) invites applications for a fully funded PhD studentship in History within the Doctoral Program in History, hosted by the Department of History, Arts and Humanities and linked to Polo CIDEHUS.UAL, part of the Interdisciplinary Centre for History, Cultures and Societies. This doctoral research position supports an original PhD project aligned with the strategic research themes of CIDEHUS, focusing on historical inquiry within broader History and Archaeology frameworks. The studentship has an initial duration of 12 months, renewable up to 48 months, and is based in Lisbon, Portugal, with an expected start in April 2026. The programme promotes strong integration into an active research unit, structured doctoral training, publication expectations, and participation in national and international academic activities.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in History or related discipline
- Residence in Portugal on a permanent and habitual basis
- Not previously funded by an FCT doctoral grant
- Not holding a PhD degree
- Enrolment (or commitment to enrol) in the PhD in History at UAL
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research experience in History
- Peer-reviewed academic publications
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
