About the PhD Position
Nantes Université invites applications for a Fully Funded PhD in Geosciences (Earth and Planetary Sciences) within the LPG UMR-CNRS 6112 research unit in Nantes, France. This doctoral project focuses on understanding the interaction between meteorite impacts and Martian mid-latitude glaciers. Moreover, it contributes to advanced research in Geosciences, particularly climate history, ice dynamics, planetary habitability, and Mars surface evolution. The position is designed for early-stage researchers interested in Mars exploration, planetary geomorphology, remote sensing, and space science research.
The PhD position is funded for three years and offers full-time employment (35 hours per week) starting in October 2026. Furthermore, the research integrates orbital imagery analysis, numerical modelling, and analogue field studies. Candidates will work with high-resolution datasets from ESA’s TGO CaSSIS and NASA’s MRO HiRISE and CTX missions. As a result, they will gain hands-on experience in planetary data analysis, GIS mapping, geomorphological interpretation, and climate reconstruction techniques.
In addition, the programme provides access to advanced research facilities and international collaboration opportunities in planetary science and space research networks. Therefore, this opportunity is ideal for candidates with a Master’s degree in geosciences, Earth sciences, or related disciplines. It is particularly best for those students aiming to build careers in planetary research, astrogeology, climate science, and future space exploration missions.
