About the Program
The University of Siena, Italy, is offering four fully funded PhD positions as part of the prestigious ERC Synergy project Last Neanderthals. This exciting initiative focuses on answering major questions about the transition from Neanderthals to Homo sapiens during the Middle–Upper Paleolithic. Successful candidates will specialise in Geoarchaeology, Sedimentology, Archaeobotany, or Fire Proxies, exploring key archaeological sites to better understand early human behaviour and environmental interactions. Students will work closely with an international team, gaining access to state-of-the-art labs, advanced analytical methods, and fieldwork opportunities across Europe.
